HOW WE GOT OUR NAME
We had just bought a black female and we were trying to come up with a name for
her. We were attending a wine tasting that evening and were trying a new wine by
the name of Merlot.
My husband thought that that would be a great name for a Newfoundland. At that
time we decided that our kennel would carry a wine theme. Bacchanal means a
party/gathering of wine drinkers or people who worship the Roman god Bacchus.
Bacchanal Kennels started that fateful evening back in 1991; although I acquired
my first Newfoundland back in 1983. Since then we have produced a Versatile
Newfoundland, and many champions, obedience titles, water titles and draft
titled Newfoundlands. One of our highpoints came in 1995 when a black male puppy
came from Kathy Griffins Seabrook Kennels. That puppy is Ch Am/Mex/Int Ch
Seabrook Bacchanal Port Tabu ROM. Port has exceeded our expectations. Port has
been in the top 5 Newfoundlands for 1998 & 1999. Port was select dog at the
Newfoundland Club of America National Specialty held in Solomons, MD.

Then came the Clumbers
In 1997, we decided to import a few Clumber
Spaniels from Europe. We went to Sweden and Finland. From Finland we imported
from Tomi Jantti/Tiina Kankonnen Mina Whites Kennel. Ch Mina White
Buffy(OFA,CERF) and Ch Outline's Such a Mess.
From Sweden we imported from Marie-Louise Almgren's Welladays Kennels Ch
Welladays Creme de la Creme(OFA,CERF) and from Margareta Edman Ch Tzatziki(CERF).
We feel very grateful to have acquired these wonderful clumbers.
WHERE ARE WE?
We are located in Riverside County, California, in the unincorporated city of
Gavilan Hills. Since moving here in 1997 I have gone back to my roots which is
horses. I exhibited Quarter horses and trained Standardbred Racehorses. I
now raise Paints & Quarter horses.
